Polish-Ukrainian relations could be considered rather well-researched these days. Although with the advance of time additional historical facts continue to surface (like the 2008 Polish “Theses on Poland’s policy regarding Russia and Ukraine”, declassified in 2017), researchers have mostly adequately identified crucial pieces in the history of PolishUkrainian coexistence (both recent and olden) that continuously led to either cooperation, or conflict. However, the scope of the research has usually dealt with the bilateral aspects of relations. Although a number of works touched on the “triangle in international relations” (Ukraine, the Republic of Poland, and the Russian Federation), or on the multilateral transformation of the Polish-Ukrainian cooperation with the advance of European integration and NATO enlargement, for the most part they covered how Ukraine and Poland cooperate (or do not) in the context of neighboring powerful actors. This work considers additional factors in the contemporary Polish-Ukrainian relations: rather than focusing on the so-called “great powers”, it considers how other neighboring states factor in the balance of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation. Particularly, how various troubles in Georgia became an important topic, even a platform, for pro-Euro-Atlantic politicians, especially in Poland, how that factored into Polish aspirations for leadership in the European Union’s eastern policy, and how participation of Georgia and Azerbaijan in various Poland and Ukraine-centric multilateral organizations has led to hopes for the inclusion of South Caucasus in the revival of the ambitious “Intermarium” project amongst various political thinkers in Ukraine and Poland.
