    Prediction of isomorphous substitutions of strontium or barium by sodium and actinides for their immobilization in molybdates with a scheelite-type structure

    This study investigates the thermodynamic stability of Sr1–x(Na0.5An0.5)xMoO4 solid solutions, where An is an actinide, based on the crystal energy theory of isomorphous miscibility. Mixing energies, critical decomposition temperatures, and substitution limits were calculated. It was shown that these properties increase with the atomic number of the actinide due to greater size mismatch. Stability diagrams were constructed to assess thermodynamic limits. For actinides from the Ac–Pu series, the solid solutions remain stable under IAEA-recommended waste disposal conditions. However, those with Am–No series actinides are prone to decomposition. The applicability of lanthanides as actinide simulants was evaluated, highlighting significant limitations for heavy actinides.
